•What insights have you gained about research from taking this course?
Some things that I have gained from taking this course is how a research program works and the details that goes along with it. An example of this is all the different types of research design. The first one you could use is experimental design, which involves doing an experiment using non-human subject. The other design are, quasi-experimental design, non-experimental designs and qualitative studies. I have also gain the knowledge of the important it is to make sure you are respecting the people that are participating in the study. Also that you want to really find out what you really want to get out of the research program.
•In what ways have your ideas about the nature of doing research changed?
The way I use to look at research was to just find a subject you wanted to learn, collect the data and write a report. Now after taking this class I have learned that it a lot more complicated than that it could take months and even years to understand. There a lot more in depth details that you have to handle. For example you have to make sure that your research has a purpose. That you are being respectful and honest with the people in the research programs
•What lessons about planning, designing, and conducting research in early childhood did you learn?
When you are planning a research program there are a lot of information that needs to be in play. First you need to figure out not only what you want to research on but a most valuable place to collect your data. For example would the best place be at a daycare, family homes or school? Think of the who, what, when and where for your research project. Then you need to decide what type of research you would want to use. How you want to collect data, you might want to collect it by observation, interviews, camera’s or use charts or graphs. Then you want to make sure that you are validated and not disrespecting any family members. You also need to figure out the length of time you would want.
•What were some of the challenges you encountered—and in what ways did you meet them?
Some challenges I had during this course was learning and understand all the new vocabulary. I got over this by reading them in the book and looked them up online. I also had a struggle understanding all the different types of ways to do research.
•What are some of the ways your perceptions of an early childhood professional have been modified as a result of this course?
From this course I have noticed that I have a better understand that kids need to know what’s going on with children and get into the same eye level as them. I think that this would be helpful because every child should be treated the same way as everyone.
